In the blink of an eye...

...your life can change. It can be turned upside down without a moment's notice. Sometimes we are left asking, "WHY, GOD?" EACH AND EVERY thing happens for a reason, that I'm positive about. We may never ever know the reason but it is there. Nothing negative comes FROM God but I do believe he allows us to go through painful trials for a reason. But with this one I'm left wondering what this all means...why? What will happen next... how will this person's life be changed?

My mom slipped on ice leaving a NOWCARE clinic in Ogden UT. It is a medical clinic (for cryin' out loud!) She had been there too pick up her prescriptions and slipped on ice on the sidewalk. CAN YOU SAY TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY NEGLIGENT? CAN YOU SAY ATTORNEY? I am beside myself about this. How can a medical clinic be so inconceivably negligent? But I digress....

She sustained a broken wrist that is as we speak in a temporary cast. I was also told her eye was "torn". She had emergency surgery yesterday to sew it. TODAY I find out that it split in two. Her eyeball literally split in two and the surgeon sewed it together yesterday. The lens is imbedded somewhere inside the eyeball; that will have to come out. They will have to do a transplant. Her next surgery will be in a couple weeks. She will have at least 2 maybe more surgeries. The surgeon told me this morning that he doesn't know the extent of vision loss, and won't know for a couple months. On Tuesday she has to go in and have her wrist set and have the eye surgeon look at her eye again. She is unable to drive. She is unable to care for her animals- the woman can't even bend over-no bending over due to pressure and bleeding. She's on cumadin so the bleeding has been excessive.

WHY? Because some hourly worker was supposed to go out and salt the ice and did a half-assed job? In the blink of an eye, that person decided to change this woman's life...her life could well be forever changed because of this. She is unable to read at this point (and the woman reads incessantly), she is unable to drive (and lives alone in the country) and unable to lift or bend. I will have to take my 3 year old on a cross-country flight, incurring huge expenses to do so (which I would prefer to do under better circumstances-trust me!), she will miss work...we will have after school care for our son (which is at his friend's house-don't feel too badly for him!) The lives of 10 people were immediately effected (counting those from her church that came to her aid and have stayed with her). We don't know the lasting effects of this injury, but I do know that my mom is scared. This woman has had TWO open heart surgeries and I have NEVER EVER heard the woman say, "I'M SCARED" until now. I have never been so worried about anything or anyone in my life. All because of the some dumb ass employee got lazy. That is disgusting.

Sorry for the rant...I just hate to see something that could have been prevented by a handful of salt change the course of someone's life...such a needless accident and it really pisses me off....
