First Note Home

Today was the first note home day for Jacob. The outside of the envelope was addressed:

"To the Parents of
Jacob Tinney"

My heart sank. Jacob is a good kid, but like all kids he's not perfect. (Seriously, he's not...I know you don't believe me, Grandma Florida, but it's true!)

I opened the envelope up and read the note inside (typed, 8.5x11 paper and signed by the Principal):

"September 14, 2009

Dear Parent/Guardian: (obviously a personalized letter...lol!)

Your child has been nominated by a faculty or staff member of XXXXX [name removed for kid protection] Elementary School to receive a Polar Award. The purpose of this award is to seek out those students who have demonstrated positive characteristics or accomplishments. These could be in the areas of marked academic improvement, academic achievement, setting a good example, reaching an unusual goal, or consistently trying to do their best.

Your child will be recognized by Mr. XXX, Assistant Principal and myself. He or she will be rewarded with a certificate at a reception. This reception will be held on Thursday, September 24th at 2:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

Your child's name will also be published in the Jouett Journal. It is our hope, that through this recognition, other students will be motivated to "be the best they can be." It is our way of honoring your child who has been a positive influence to others.

Join us in taking pride in your child's accomplishments. We hope you will be able to join us for the reception.

Sincerely,

XXX
Principal"

Yay, Jacob! I'm proud of you!
